Tentative Agreement Scheduled for Mailing to Members in January

December 7, 2011 — After nearly two years of negotiations, the nation’s major freight railroads and the BRS reached a tentative agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement. The tentative agreement was initialed Thursday, November 17, 2011.

Initially, the BRS scheduled to send the ratification ballot out in mid-December; but in order to allow time for regional meetings, the Grand Executive Council rescheduled the ballot mailing to January 3, 2012.

This extension allows time for regional educational meetings for those members who wish to attend. Meeting times and locations will be scheduled and posted on www.brs.org.

BRS Issues Strike Ballot

The National Mediation Board (NMB) has released the RLBC, which includes the BRS, from further mediation in their dispute over changes in National Labor Agreements. The changes would affect employees in some twenty-eight Class I freight railroads represented in bargaining by the National Carrier's Conference Committee (NCCC).

The BRS is in the process of sending out packets, including a strike ballot, to those BRS members/railroad employees who will be affected by National Negotiations.

Long before it became about "The Biggest Mattress Sale Of The Year!" or any other [insert Chinese item here] sale, Labor Day was about hard-working Americans and the success of the labor movement. I, for one, would like to commend everyone out there who puts in a hard day's work on the front lines of this war on workers. I would also like to give a shout out to all the locked-out workers and workers on strike who are fighting for good middle class jobs and benefits for everyone.

Walter "Bill" William Regnier Jr.
(February 10, 1957 - August 2, 2011)

Walter “Bill” William Regnier Jr., age 54, of Fairfield, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at his home.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Walton Club on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. The body has been cremated.

Memorials may be made to The Walton Club or The Trojan Booster Club. Cards and memorials can be sent to 805 S. 5^th St. Fairfield, Iowa 52556.

Bill was born on February 10, 1957 in Unionville, Missouri to Walter William and Genevie Nappel Regnier. He married Desiree Conkel on April 17, 1982 in Burlington, Iowa.

Bill was a signal inspector for BNSF Railroad. He was a member of Walton Club, Elks #1192 and HOG Riders. He enjoyed Iowa Hawkeye Football, Kansas City Chiefs, St. Louis Cardinals, golfing, NASCAR, weight lifting and riding his Harley Davidson.

Bill is survived by his mother: Genevie Hartman; wife: Desiree; 1 son: William Regnier of Fairfield; 1 half-brother: Terry Regnier of Huron, South Dakota; 3 step-brothers: Ronnie, Larry and Bobbie Hartman and 1 step-sister: Carole Toothman.

He was preceded in death by his father: Walter Regnier; step-father: Gerald Hartman and his grandparents.
